CRAFT: Hand built, hand sculpted, and hand painted ceramics
Heather Parker is a proud wife and stay at home mother of two wonderful kids. While she has always enjoyed making art, it wasn't until after the birth of her children that she rediscovered the joy of creating. Heather grew up in a household decorated with antiques and anthropomorphic pieces which has been a large influence in her artistic interests. Now, she expresses her creativity through working with clay, painting, baking, upcycling furniture and really anything that inspires her to try something new.
Her love for all things Halloween and vintage led her to JPD, and after years of admiring Johanna’s art, she purchased her first piece. The rest is history! More recently, she gave ceramics a try and what a journey of learning it has been! To help with her sculpting practice and glazing techniques, she referenced some of Johanna’s designs as a guide. Over time and with much practice, she was able to sculpt and capture features and began to understand the moodiness of her under glazes. Achieving her envisioned color palette has been a process of surprise and frustration to predict how the hues would evolve after her ceramics are fired and glazed. With more color practice and hands-on experience, she started to sculpt and create her own designs with growing confidence. From there, her handmade ceramic collections grew and she started Swee'Der Creations.
Through her artistic journey, Heather would reach out to Johanna to share peeks at her growing collection of older JPD reproductions, often manufactured through Primitives by Kathy. With an affinity for these past works, Heather made and shared a few personal ceramic pieces inspired by the like. Offering a few tips along the way, Johanna was smitten with Heather’s folksy whimsical style, and it was only natural to collaborate on some one of kind pottery pieces that captured the spirit and style of both artists!
Heather draws her inspiration from many other folk artists, her Mother’s love for Holt Howard, and mother nature, which spurs her creativity. All pieces are made with a variety of clay bodies that she shapes, sculpts , and then glazes. No two are alike, and her organic shapes and unusual forms add uniqueness and personality to each collectible creation.
Look for more playfully fun, one of a kind ceramic delights from this creative duo!
