WiggleBugs is a long-distance family collaboration by Genevieve Paxson in Dallas, Texas along with her parents, Karen and Duane Pichler in Fon du Lack, Wisconsin. With a family history deeply rooted in art, culture and world exploration, their WiggleBugs collaboration has re-kindled creative endeavors from the past. As a child, Genevieve would watch her father sketch illustrations and help her mom make quilts, stuffed animals and clothing. Their designs were often inspired by family strolls through the local markets and colorful bazaars when they lived in the middle east. Treasure hunting ancient artifacts in the deserts of Jordan or finding enchantment in the creations of the local weavers, are dear memories that continue to inspire their artistry today.
Genevieve, the lead artist and designer at WiggleBugs, hosts a creative brainstorm session several times a week with Karen and Duane. Via phone and video, ideas for new creations are shared and frequent shipments of sample concepts are sent. Their handmade creations span a variety of decorative and useful products for the home and are always made with a high level of attention to detail.
The team at WiggleBugs discovered Johanna Parker fabrics to incorporate into their rustic, cozy, vintage aesthetic. They found that Johanna’s designs and patterns work seamlessly with their styles, combining an air of edge and lightheartedness.
After creating a few quilts, quillows, double-sided art pillows and whimsical nesting boxes with JPD fabrics, Genevieve reached out to Johanna for feedback. Intrigued, Johanna was smitten by this family of crafters and their clever designs that artfully blend a sense of comfort and ignite a spark of joy. As such, a match was made!
‘Perfect Imperfections’ is the motto at WiggleBugs, and it represents the process of making every creation with loving hands. At a higher level, the motto describes the spirit of the family’s collaboration to spark a little joy for others with their products and funding donations to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). As explained by Genevieve, “NAMI provided critical support and resources for my family when we felt hopeless and we want to help ensure they can be there for others.”
