It's Rhyme Time ~ Make Your Offer!

UPDATE:  Wow, the winning offer has come in, and I am blown away by the wonderful admiration and response I received for Moonsong Moe! Many thanks to ALL the generous collectors who placed bids. I am so very grateful to you! In the end, this very special piece will soon be living with Patricia in Oregon! THANK YOU so very much for your support and love for one of a kind folk art!

I do believe it has been a couple of years since I created & offered one of my collectible Rhyme Time Originals! Unique to my line of one of a kinds, these full-figured fellows each balance atop a decorated ball and include a special rhyme that I have written to accompany the piece. "Moonsong Moe" is my first sitting bulldog, and he was certainly a labor of love with delicate details from the folds in his face to his ruffled collar and his tiny tail. Painted in a Carnival Halloween motif of cream, orange, black and vintage turquoise, he is a collector's delight throughout the year! "Moonsong Moe" is a hand-sculpted and painted folk art curio, standing at 8.5" tall, and certainly unique to the world! I welcome you to study the various images of Moe, here below, read his Rhyme Time poem, and consider placing your Best Offer!

Moonsong-Moe-&-Rhyme

"Moonsong Moe is one vocal guy,
For at night he sings up to the moonlit sky.
A harmonious howl can be heard high and low,
As the man in the moon reveals his glow.
Mesmerized by the face that lights the night,
Moe perches on his ball and sings with might.
Crescent or full matters not to Moe,
As he is under the spell of the lunar show!"

Works in Progress...

Just thought I would share a peek at what is in the works this month. A bulldog on a ball, a cat on a moon, a pinocchio-nosed jack-o'-lantern and a witch with a wild "do" are becoming fast friends in my workshop studio. More characters are underway, and I am pondering the idea of hosting a web sale with a summer carnival twist. We'll see! The current cast of characters may end up in the Halloween vault, but that's the beauty of these guys as they can swing either way :)  Stay tuned and please Join My Mailing list to receive my next newsletter with all the details!

By the way, if you are an artist, craftsman, painter, etc... What are YOU creating? Do tell.....

Best wishes,
~ Johanna

A Ghoultide Tease...

Well, I spent half of yesterday photographing my originals for this Saturday's Ghoultide Gathering! It's always helpful for me to document what I have created. I find it quite fascinating to compare my work from year to year in order to see just how much I have progressed. The funny thing is, with all the practice I have accumulated over the years, one would assume that I would be speedy fast at creating my one of a kinds by now. Ha! However, on the contrary, I keep raising the bar it seems. So, my creative process from start to finish tends to only lengthen with time! (Darn, I'm thinking....No wonder I cannot keep up with all of those special orders) Anyway, while I was photographing each piece, I pulled out my macro lens and took some fun close-ups. You'll have to use your imagination to fill in the blanks, or better yet, attend the show! For now, here is teaser featuring just a handful of the Halloween collectible originals I have created for this very special event. I hope to see you there! And let me tell you ~ my Halloween papier mache characters are anxious to meet you and perhaps just hop into your shopping bag to be swept off to your home :)

ENJOY!

Owl-Tease
* Just one of the several owl-themed originals I sculpted for this event....

Bat-Kettle-Tease
* This sweet little bat kettle cup turns out to be "JP's Pick!" He begged me to keep it, but this bat was created for the Ghoultide Gathering. So, I said I'd make him a similar one, someday... hehe....

Spider-Scare-Tease
* I had fun posing various pieces together, and I really loved how this scene turned out. It reminds me of Little Miss Muffet... They are sold separately, but I think they look pretty sweet together :)

Witch-Tease
* Looking up at "Wicked Wanda"..... the one of a kind witch candy container...

Black-Cat-Tease
* Of course, I had to sneak in one of my signature black cats!

JOL-Tease
* A sweet jack-o'-lantern candy container offers a charming smile!

Bulldog-Vase-Tease
* For all you dog lovers, this guy turned out pretty neat! But, you'll have to see him in person to get the full perspective on "Spooky Sparky" ~ a double vase/candy container with secret chamber below.... Shhh, it's a secret!

Bunny-&-JOL-Kettle-Tease
* Whimsical candy corn carrots decorate this black Halloween bunny's kettle cup...

Skelly-Tease
* A pair of spooky skellies seem to scare each-other's socks off! BOO!

Best-Witches-Tease
* And a sweet witch bust finds me feeling bewitched.....

Something to Bark About...

I thought you may like a peek at this special order piece, finished last week. It's not often that I sculpt dogs, but I do love a whimsical black Halloween bulldog! As you can imagine, they do take hours of tedious sculpting with all of those characteristic folds, but in the end, they certainly can come to life! I only wish my fingers were able to work more quickly as I have a long list of requests from collectors, some of whom have been patient for years! However, I do hope to chip away at that list this spring, so wish me luck! (As my imagination often wanders, I am easily distracted....but I promise to try my best ! :)

Meet, "Dignified Dora, the Halloween Bulldog"...

Halloween-Bulldog-zoom
She was adopted sight-unseen by a devoted collector, and they met today!
.... Below is a sweet quote from the email of Dora's new owner:

"SHE'S HEREEEEEEEEEEEEEE, AND I AM IN LOVE! . . . . . . . . . . .
THANK YOU SO MUCH. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH I APPRECIATE YOUR KINDNESS AS WELL AS YOUR SUPERB GIFT.
" ~ Charlotte

( I just love receiving notes like that :) It's always a joy!

* Dora stands 14 inches tall, and is an original from my series of Base Chamber Vases. Her head, which serves as a lid, twists off to reveal a candy compartment, but turn the vase upside down to find yet another secret place to stash what you wish! What fun!
